Blink-182 posted on their website four years ago on this day that they were going on a hiatus. Things have since changed… they’re back and in full force. To commemorate what this day meant four years ago and what it means today, I have decided to hold a very special giveaway.

Hit The Lights haven’t hit the updates in a while… so I decided to see what’s up myself. They’re currently in the studio recording new songs. As for what they’re going to do with them is still up in the air… It might become an EP or another full length. Whatever it is, trust me it’s going to sound great. More information is going to be announced soon.

Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour
2/15/09 San Jose Civic Auditorium, San Jose, CA


For the record, please state your name and role in the band.
Dan: I sing and play the guitar.
Alan: I also sing and play the guitar.

How was the first stop of the tour yesterday?
D: It was awesome.
A: It was a lot of fun. All the bands are really cool, we’ve known them for a while. As far as a first day on tour, it was pretty easy.
D: Definitely smooth. Yesterday worked out pretty good.

How did you guys come about going on this tour?
D: We were on Warped Tour last summer and met Kevin Lyman. When he was planning Taste of Chaos he wanted to put together a really energetic tour this year. After seeing us play Warped, Kevin asked us to join. It’s an awesome tour for anybody to be on. It just makes sense especially for us though because we’re friends with all the bands on it and it’s just a tour that we fit on.

I know yesterday was just the first stop, but how was it compared to most other shows you guys have played?
D: It’s a lot bigger. The venues are huge which is completely different.
A: It’s a lot less intimate, but we try to not let it effect us.

Rise or Die Trying came out in ‘07. Are you guys working on a new album?
D: That’s what we’re doing right now [literally were, they took a break to do the interview]. We’re writing and demoing. We hope to go in to the studio after this tour is over.

You guys have named some off your song titles based of movies, what’s the deal with that?
D: We do. We base them off inside jokes, a lot of which comes from movies.
A: We don’t have our own sense of humor, we just use movie humor (laughs).
D: We didn’t set out to name our songs from movies, it just kind of happened.



Do you guys find it hard balancing between hardcore and pop-punk while writing an album?
D: It’s not really hard.
A: It’s not like something we do… nothing like “Oh, we gotta put a hardcore part right here.”
D: We set out to write more of a pop-punk song. It just comes out more heavier and aggressive because of the music we all listen to and grew up with. We just try to write energetic pop-punk and it just comes out harder.

Who are your musical influences?
A: We all grew up listening to hardcore bands from where we came from. After a while we all started listening to pop-punk bands like New Found Glory, Saves the Day, Lifetime. We were intrigued by it and tried to do our own version of it.

How did you guys come about getting signed to Decaydance?
D: Well we are on I-Surrender and Rob from there is really good friends with Pete Wentz. Because of this, Pete asked us to play a show with Fall Out Boy in Buffalo about two years ago. When we met, we all got along and Pete asked Rob to work out a joint thing between I-Surrender and Decaydance.

A lot of magazines/websites/music industry folks are building you guys up to be the next big thing. Do you guys feel any pressure?
A: Not really. Definitily not pressure for being the next big thing. We just want to take this band wherever it takes us. We don’t have to be the biggest band in the world. The only pressure we’ve been feeling is from our next record.
D: We just want to get it out. We want to have new songs to play for kids and something new for them to listen to. As far as that, we feel pressure trying to write and record the album. The pressure we’re feeling right now is to get everything done in the time restraints we have. We want to take the band where it goes, but we aren’t setting out thinking “if we keep working hard we’re gonna be huge.”

Anything else you guys would like to say?
D: Anyone who is reading this should come out to shows and see us. We’ll have a record for you real soon.

TV history going down… the first ever HD broadcast of The Simpsons is debuting tonight on FOX. They have a new opening sequence which only one word can describe it… Awesome.
